Chrysler and GM should both collapse, they have a hard time undertanding the concept of Fuel Economy. Chrysler wants to throw a "Hemi" in everything and GM puts optional Supercharges out for "econo cars" ie Colbalt, Ion; make 300hp V6's and Hybrid Escalades. They are also overpriced. Ford has the Focus and Ka, European Market, Highly ranked Mustang, and Fuel Cell technology.

There's been a big run on Chrysler in the poll, before GM was number one by far, now Chrysler is closing the gap.

most of the GM votes are popularity votes coming from people who just don't like GM

That's one of the reasons why I voted for them

No, it's because GM WILL fail first. It's simple arithmetic.

The reason people are voting for Chrysler is because Chrysler is building the worst cars and they are but they don't know the actual financial situation of the companies. Chrysler has MORE money on hand than GM even though they are much smaller and need much less money to run.

Right now, it doesn't matter who is building the best car line-up. In the end, whoever runs out of cash first, goes first. And that will be GM in less than 60 days.

It seems like people are voting based on the quality of the product lines. It is simply irrelevant during this crisis where people just aren't buying cars anyway. Companies are living off past savings and GM has the least of it.

Chrysler has a long history of "mergers" and "working withs"--- the few I remember are Mitsubishi, Maserati (I think-- The Chrysler TC), Peugeot and Mercedes. To say that Mercedes sucked the life out of Chrysler is wrong, It was more like the Mercedes guys realizing how F'ed up Chrysler is and divorcing themselves ASAP.
Have you driven in a recent example of both companies lately? The Chrysler products are horrible, in ergonomics and quality. The Mercedes Chrysler minivan thing that Mercedes sells is disgusting. No wonder Mercedes quality took a hit when with Chrysler.
I own a Mercedes Sprinter van, which was badged as a Dodge when I bought it. None of the Chrysler/Dodge dealers had qualified "Sprinter Mechanics" which were a big selling point at the time of purchase. When my local dealer closed, the closest competent dealership was across the Hudson River. Unfortunately, at the time of purchase, the dealer neglected to tell me (or just didn't know) that the standard height Sprinter is considered an oversized vehicle in NYS--due to height and weight limits. So to avail myself of the promised service from Chrysler, it would cost me 13 dollars to go over the bridge, a normal six dollar toll.
Chrysler has always used other companies to bolster its product line. It usually lasts until they try to exert too much influence over product. Then they get dumped like the ugly fat girl at a frat party
