My Dad's 924S

Well, as some of you know, my dad bought a 1987 Porsche 924S a few years ago. He's fixed up what needed fixing and drives it in nice weather and loves it.

Recently, my parents have been thinking about selling their house off once my mom retires (I think thats about 3-5 years time), and getting into a condo of some sort. They're starting the process this winter of getting rid of a bunch of the junk they've accumulated in the basement over the last 20 years.

In moving to a condo, my dad was talking about just going down to 1 car since that's all him and my mom will need once they're both retired. I don't know if they'll just get something new to share or keep one of the 3 cars they own now, but basically my dad said that he'd be giving me the Porsche.

This got me thinking...do I really want the Porsche? I mean, it runs fine now, but what about if stuff goes wrong with it? Will the repairs be too costly to keep the car? I mean, my dad goes to a porsche mechanic in St. Catharines right now and says an oil change is about 100 bucks with tax. Do I want all that hassle and expense.

Then it occoured to me that he wants to pass something on to his son. Something I can appreciate and take care of. More importantly though, I figured I'd be best served not to look a gift Porsche in the mouth! LOL

Wow! Now that's a nice gift. Keep us informed on what you do with it.

oh and .. yes take it. things passed down from father to son are of a rarity and should be cherished. Just dont drive it much and do the required maintenance on it.. someday when you have a son (f you dont already )who can drive he will really appreciate the "wicked old car" lol

That $100 oil change is with full synthetic yada yada yada....

Take the car and buy the manual...... do your own work. That is a fun car to drive and on special days you can even let Dad drive it again.

That is the only Porsche I ever liked, never mind considered owning. The rest looked like beach toys starting with the 356. Nice car.

I agree...as a weekend or special event car, the Porsche should bring you lots of happiness. I tend towards sentimentality and would keep this in the family.

Unless you don't like the car at all, It would be nice to keep such a gift from your father (I know from experience) and at the same time it would be a fun project/ track car that is for sure.
