OMG; beware going "just to talk"; talk about what? Get the price in writing (on e-mail), then go buy it. You can surely get the rebate AND financing; just not their super-duper rate financing (which I'd be dubious about anyway). Definitely take the rebate.

Now, wait a minute, there is nothing wrong with going to look at the cars, touching them, smelling them, sitting in them, and going for a test drive! They don't hold a gun to your head, at the dealership, you know, and you CAN walk away..

But they'll be mad if you don't buy after "wasting" their time; oh, will they be mad. Are you man enough, LOL?

They won't be mad. Happens to them all the time. Just be polite and if they are nice ask for them when/if you to come to really buy the car.

You can defintely get the rebate if you finance elsewhere. I did.

No, no, no... they won't be mad!

Just say, for example "I am shopping for a car, but I haven't yet completely decided between the Yaris and the Fit. Do you have time for a test drive? After the test drive you can ask your questions if you want, but don't sign anything, just say you want a couple of days to think about it.

Or you can schedule a test drive on the phone, sometimes that works better. I did that, too, to ensure I wouldn't have to wait for a sales guy to be available to let me drive the car.

You're not obligated to purchase the first car you test drive and they know it. I think I test drove 2 cars, and visited 3 or 4 dealerships before I found my Yaris.

I think it's great that OTTERHERE got a deal by email first, but IMO the test drive should come first. The salesguy will give you a card, and then you can continue the negotiations by phone and email then, if you want, but you should definitely go check out the cars in person BEFORE you close the deal! :)

By the way, I said "tell them you're trying to narrow it down between 2 vehicles" because that's the little white lie that worked for me when I just wanted to see what the Yaris was like but wasn't ready to close the deal.

But you don't have to lie, you can say whatever you want, just as long remember to ask nice.

Just look at it this way, when you go buy a some pants or a dress, or a pair of shoes, you try them on first, right? :) Sometimes you buy them right away and sometimes you put them on hold, right? Same thing with the car, really.

Well, yes, of course you need to test-drive it before buying it (I confess I test-drove an '09 sedan and then bought, undriven, an 08 hatchback ; that explains a lot of my dissatisfaction, I'm sure). But I made the mistake of, which I was test-driving it, saying, "Oh, yes; this is great; I want this!" The guy expected me to sign right there...

Just make it CLEAR you're *only* test-driving that day. Then get your price in writing (either with them or someone else, in person or by e-mail). Then think about it more.

I picked up my 09 3 door hatchback (automatic) with power package for $14,700 out the door. Best deal I could find...

When my brother got his, I was able to find him a deal for his 08 3 door (auto with power package) for $14K OTD.

Best thing to do is speak with the internet sales reps. They seem to cut the best deals. They are also running some awesome incentives right now. You just have to ask about them. If you want, you can always say, "my friend just got one for this price...can you beat/match it?"

My first car was a BMW 318ti, which is a hatchback! Its manual transmission, even at 140,000 miles was smooth as silk. It had a bunch of problems, like a sick old man, but just like that old man, there's someone out there that loves him despite their problems. That's how I felt about that car, especially now that I look back to those days. I currently lease an Altima and I am just about to pull the trigger on a Yaris. Never grew an attachment to the Nissan; it's a very impersonal car.

I can tell (and so can you, patient readers) that I'm never going to "love" this car; we won't be going the whole way together. I'd almost like to buy back my Swift (I know where it is), but I will for sure be on the lookout for other small cars as they come on the market. Just too many irritations with Yaris.

I think you should get it back. I'm serious. How many miles did you put on your Yaris? If you have driven her more than a couple of tanks worth of gas and you're still not happy with her, then, take the $ hit and get back the car you love. What's the point of keeping the Yaris if it's going to give you nothing but grief? Life is too short.

Hmmm... doesn't sound good. Can't tell you what to do, but your swift only had what 8 or 9 years? You could probably have driven her around another couple of years at least?

I've only driven my Yaris a couple hundred miles so far but I can tell driving is getting more intuitive each time.

I took her out to the Wine Country last Saturday and had fun driving her on small country roads up there. I thought she handled corners and adhered to the road real well! There is a stretch of highway up there where you can speed a little (shhh.. don't tell the CHP) and she did real well there, too. Nice.

Getting on and off the freeway is still a little be a bit of a pain, because drivers around here are not particularly courteous (I'm being polite!)and sometimes you need a bit more acceleration than the Yaris can give you to be able to merge in and out, but overall, I mean, it's a car, it works ...

I don't know, you talk about the Swift a lot and you have the option to get it back, I mean why not?

uh.. I guess that's what they call "highjacking a thread?" My bad. We're just talking about buyer's remorse post new Yaris purchase.

Hey anyone still following this thread! And no, no hijacking, I like reading all the convo and it was informative to me so it wasn't a hijack hehe.

Soo if you've seen my other posts here and there, I got the car! I don't have the exact price with me to tell you, but if anyone really really wants to know how much mine cost with all the options I mentioned, just ask and I will look at my paper at home and type up the info.

I think it was a good price, maybe could have been better reading about other peoples' prices in recent posts in this forum- but we did do a lot of negotiating, and only one dealer kept up with us when we kept asking for lower.. so maybe its just the area where I was buying from, but it seems like a good price since it was like pulling teeth to get that price. I think it was 14000ish.

My advice for newbies- DO email dealers first. Its nice having emails to print out. I did my negotiating online ok, the price I got in an email my dad couldn't get any lower with another dealer he was talking to in person. So we went to the dealer who gave me the good price online and we worked the price even lower. One snag we got was in the end, we had a price and when the salesman was writing down what options the car had he didn't write down keyless entry.

I told him thats what I told him I wanted in the email and thats what I thought I was negotiating. He said that price didn't include keyless and he did not tell me that, and it would be extra. I told him he did say it included keyless... again denied.... finally, I whiped out HIS email I printed with his words "and keyless entry" and the price and he was just like "oh oops i made a mistake, we can't do that". My father got POed and said he probably did it on purpose. They said they couldnt get us keyless unless we paid extra... we opted out, put down a deposit and left.

Next day my dad called to another dealer and told him the price we got- except we wanted keyless in that price. His dealer said sure. Called back first dealer and he finally caved and gave us keyless with our price because he didnt want us going to the other dealer. So yea, moral is, even if a dealer tells you something is impossible, if you are going to cancel the purchase they will probably cave.

So, overall I am soooo satisfied and happy. Its so cool, small, fun, clean etcetc. I love it.

-There are some things that bother me and I will mention just incase a potential buyer is lurking around. The center console does take a little bit or readjusting, but its not a big deal at all. The only bother I have is since the console is in the center, your steering wheel area is completely dark at night.. I don't reall like that feeling. Same with the gear shift area, its really dark and its taking some getting used to looking at the console to see if I'm in the right gear instead of the actual shifter at night.

-Keeping the dashboard looking nice is annoying me! I never cared about my old car so this is new to me. I bought Armor All dashboard protectant/cleaner wipes, but I get streaks unless I use a dry cloth to clear away the armor all. Which kind of defeats the purpose of me buying wipes instead of the spray since I still needed to buy a cloth to wipe away the streaks.. hopefully I'll find out the right thing for me.

-Also, I already have a scratch on my dashboard =/ I need to buy some kind of scratch remover I guess. I don't know where or what though and hope it will work.

-I never considered how hard it would be to find the car in the parking lot! I always forget where I am. And since its so short, I don't see my bumper to help me find it like with my old car... I want to buy an antenna topper to maybe help me find it from the top instead of bumper lol.

-I found it odd that the hatch doesn't have a button pop inside the car, but that you need to use the key. I am just used to popping my trunk from the inside.

Anyway, just silly little things, yet I still love the car.
Out of everything the scratch on the dashboard is what's bothering me the most lol.

If anyone has gotten to the end of this long post, have any recomendations? I went to stores like Walmart and grocery stores to check out car sections, and paint sections, but can't find any scratch remover. It has to exist though since I've seen infomercials for super duper scratch removers.

Ohh also, pics will be coming soon. I am at work now but will try to remember to spam the forum with pics :D

**edit** Some safety issues I forgot to mention:
I'm really not used to the feel of it on the highway and when its windy.. feels really unstable. Maybe I will get used to it.

Also getting used to blind spots.. when I turn my head I don't see as much in the back/side area compared to in a sedan, also the head rest seems too high. It also feels like its in my way when I try to look back. I guess its just getting used to a hatchback vs sedan, but I do get worried I won't see something when I'm doing head checks. =/

Wow! That's a long post.

If ArmorAll still contains silicon as it used to, you really don't want to use it. It will eventually cause cracking and fading of plastic and vinyl surfaces. I find Meguiar's Quik Detailer Interior to be great for cleaning and protecting the interior surfaces.
