I found a bunch on Tirerack as well. I think I'll do the crazy thing and buy aftermarket wheels that are smaller than my stock wheels. lol.

Hah, that's definitely a first for me! It makes sense for acceleration, but at a certain point you're going start losing lateral grip. I think I'll stick with the 15x6.5. They're 6 pounds lighter than stock and it gives me more choices in tires in the long run.

That is definately true, but the other thing is how much are you going to use the insane amounts of lateral grip high perfomance tires have on the street?

My Saab has pretty good high performance tires on it now, and I've literally never found their limits. I admit I don't go to fast much on the road besides the nice twisty road that is near where I live.

Most of the cornering problems I have is due to body roll. And that is insane since the Saab is rather low to begin with.

Modern tires have more grip than can be used on streets. This is why I think I can be happy with 14" tires. I am thinking I will get Michelin Harmony tires.

While they look good, those are some of the heaviest wheels on the market.

I would go with the thinnest tires you can, or roll the fenders and use spacers. The 2nd option would prolly be best.

18" won't work, I tried 18" with 215-35-18 and it rub the inside when you do a large turn. Now I have 17" on with lowered spring, 205-40-17 and it still rub a bit when I turn my steering all the way to left side. But my reminder is you have to get a set of very light wheels, otherwise it will slow down the car a lot.

Pretty darn good I bet.

18's will fit, you just need to make sure they aren't too wide.

Rolling the fenders and adding spacers would prevent them from rubbing as well.

It just takes a little more effort, but I bet it would be worth it.

18" might work but you probably need to do some adjustment on the camber. But 17" looks OK for me.

problem is either your tire is too wide, your offset is too high, or both. 215/35/18 is actually roughly the same diameter as the stock yaris RS 185/60/15 sizing

Ok guys. I'm going to start this off by admitting that I have next to no knowlwdge on wheels etc so bare with me.
I was simply looking for something that looked good, but after having read all these posts about weight being such a key issue I'm starting to rethink my decision. I went and checked out the weight of the wheels I was interested in (17") and it turns out they're like 20lbs!!
What I'm asking is, is this really a big deal? I know most will say yes, but I'm not going to be taking the car to the track anytime soon, so is performance really affected that much?

oh and PS...I can't afford ultra light weight super wheels...any ideas?

Sure you can, you just have to look around. Even the Falken Hanabis, which is an 11lb wheel can be had for $89 if you look around...

Beyond that, there's a bunch of inexpensive Rotas that'll do the trick.

And yes, it makes a noticeable difference in a car with only 105HP.

Well see, that my thing too! I know this car isn't exactly built for speed so I'm not going to spend too much time or $ trying to tune it, but at the same time, I do want to get the most out of it.

According to most posts on this topic smaller and lighter is better, so I've been looking at 15" Konig Heliums which weigh like 10lbs. However, compared to the 17" Motegi DP12's (21lbs!!) they look like they belong on a dinky car.

I have no idea what to do...

you can always get your fenders rolled to fit an 18x8.5 rolling them usually give you a good hafl inch extra.
