Info Needed for Installing an Amplifier

Hey everyone - I want to install an amp and sub in the Yaris, but I am not sure how do go about doing it. What exactly do I need to pull apart? Where do I connect the remote wire to so the amp is not always on whether I am using the stereo or not? Where through the firewall did you access the battery from? How did you get the wire under the back seat to reach the sub?

These are just a few questions I need answers to before I go ahead with this install. Any help is greatly appreciated- thanks!

You should look up the wiring color codes in the DIY's, and that will tell you how to get amp power and on/off switching. Battery access is easy through any one of several grommets on the firewall, or drill-and-fill. How are you planning to get signal to your amp? The factory HU has no RCA-outs. Running the wire to the rear sub is easy: remove each of the trim panels from the passenger side kick panel to the rear hatch and tuck your wire in the nice little pink wire holders. The wires can then run out into the spare tire well and up to your sub. You can also tuck the wire under the rear side panel if you don't want to remove it, but its easy to remove any panel in this car since they are all snap-fit. Just work slowly and take a look at the snap diagrams before you start pulling on shit. The door sill just pulls right off.

I have already installed speakers in the doors and changed my headunit which came with 3 preouts, so I am ok with that.

I figured the wiring running down the side would be easy as you described.
My biggest problem is that I am not sure how to access those ports through the firewall. Do I need to remove any part of the dash? Or do I just need to bend over and look for the ports where the pedals are?

I do appreciate your response and you've already told me much more than I knew. Thanks!

The hole in the firewall is above the pedals, by a lot. at least it was in my sedan.

It might be easier to find it from inside the engine bay

Interesting. I'm going to give a look today to see if I can see anything via the engine bay. Hopefully I'll find it!

I'm sure I'll figure it out and I appreciate the help from those that responded.

I already have the amp and sub from my former car but it was previously installed by best buy. I simply don't trust anyone anymore so that's why I installed the HU and speakers myself and am currently trying to figure out the installation process for the amp.

Locating the hole from the engine side is easiest, then fish it through with a coat hanger. You might find a cleaner/simpler route is simply to drill a hole on the battery side of the firewall next to the factory wiring loom pass-through and install a fresh grommet. 2 things: 1- visually inspect BOTH sides of the location BEFORE you drill so you don't hit the A/C parts. 2- Buy your grommet BEFORE you drill, so the size of the hole matches the grommet.

Guys for the life of me I can't see this firewall hole. Is it where all the wires are going behind the battery? Because they seem to be going upwards in a direction where it makes it impossible to see. Plus,. do I have to remove my whole dash to find where the wire goes to once I do actually pass it through? It seems that removing only the center panel would not be enough to find the wire and guide it toward the kick panels.

Hmm...not many people on here have a 5 door lift back. I have a 3 door liftback and was able to find an existing unused grommet on the passengers side (behind the gloveboxes). Good luck!
