Welcome to Yarisworld! The throttle body is the butterfly valve that allows air from the air filter to flow into the intake manifold, which goes into the engine. Think of it as a direct extension of the gas pedal. For $150, it's not too bad, but I'd still try to find a lower price. And having this replaced at only 30K, I'd be suspicious of the dealership. But good luck to you anyway!

Should be covered un warranty, 3 yrs or 36000 miles for the basic warranty and up to 60,000 on the drive train.

Ask why it needs to be changed... it SHOULD be good for like, forever. I will ask at work in the morning and let you know if it is normal, but it sounds to me like a problem occured and they don't want to pay for it themselves.

well, that doesnt make sense because a dealer will requisition toyota head office for the money to pay for the parts and the time of the tech....when they as YOU for money for something that SHOULD be covered under warranty, its putting money in their pocket...

$150 wouldnt even be enough to cover the cost of the throttle body

That's for sure. The dealer cost on a TB is $490 and the retail is $815.

Okay..... I JUST talked to my service guys, and they want to make sure you doidn't change anything on it. Cold air intake or anything? The ONLY reason they would charge you is if there was an outside influence that caused it to malfunction. Your car is not 3 years old or over 36K miles, right? You should still have FULL warranty on it then. Tell them to explain in writing what is wrong, and exactly what they are charging you for. Then take it to another dealership and have it serviced there from now on. If they are going to charge you for this, who knows what else they might be charging you for that missed your eyes. I wished you lived near me, because I would LOVE to help you keep your car maintained so you can keep driving it for YEARS to come. I would rather have a customer happy that sees me once overy 5 years then one that isn't happy and sees me every two years.

even an intake shouldnt screw up your throttle body...UNLESS you ran w/o a filter and sucked up a bird or small rodent
