reupholster interior panels need help~
Ok so I got some special fabric in the mail and want to cover the a-pillars but I have side airbags. There is a small circle at the top of the A-pillar, is that where the air bag comes out of? so could I cover the pillar but just not cover that hole?
I also want to cover the head liner, but I read that its really hard. Well basically I want to do whatever I can myself. The seat I will take it to a shop to get it done. Oh! also Do I need to sand the parts before spraying the glue on? or just clean it? Thanks, Taka |

I don't think that that circle serves a purpose (except to be a label for whether the car has the curtain airbags or not.) When the curtain airbags blow, the entire stretch from the A to the C pillar gets popped open.
For the adhesive, you don't need to sand. |

no sanding needed :) i mesed up about 7 times putting on the fabric, and changed the insert about 2 times with different fabrics. its all good. doing the headliner sounds good :P

part of the airbag goes down the A pillar -- not too far, but enough to be a possible safety consideration.

Just the tip is under the A pillar cover. As long as his upholstery job still allows the A pillar cover to pop he should be fine. He can cover it, but it's cover needs to be separate from the head liner, etc.

I was wondering how safe it would be if I were to run a cable up or down the A pillar,
such as others have done with mounting stuff above the mirror. It seemed to me that most of the other cars were not the 09's with the airbags there. How do you remove those pillars safely? |

Ok I ran into two problems so far~
![]() #1 is that on the curved part of a A-pillar I cant seem to make make the fabric cover it in one piece without tons of wrinkles. normally I would cut it, but I cant seem to think of a way to cover it and make it look ok. any suggestions? haha oh btw its gucci demin fabric so, its alittle thick and doesnt stretch. ![]() #2 how to I remove the light gray part of the rear panel from the rest of the panel? its melted on at some points? do I just pry them off, or somthing? ![]()

Ok on the A-pillar you will need to do that curve you are pointing to FIRST. Make sure you have a good bond there and a good amount of extra fabric next is the tricky part. You are going to have to pull really hard it going to seem like you are almost turning it inside out the way it wants to pull and crease. If you have a steamer it will make it a lot easier on you or fill up an iron and turn it on high steam will work ok. Warning you fingers are going to be really soar after covering a lot of these pieces it is work to cover this car. On that rear piece if you take a drill and big drill bit you can drill down just enough to break the melted seal there and then just remove it.

I would do that but it would show folds on the other side~ on the other side of the curve is another showing side.
![]() I was thinking of having one piece cover the top and a strip to go on the outside curve? but idk if it will look ok. |

Look up Black grizzly fur in the search menu Kustom Play did his interior but it would be harder to seewrinkles in his. I did mine in suede and it started bubbling in the Texas sun and heat so I took it off. I'm telling you make sure you really have it glued on the curve let it dry then really stretch the rest on the fabric over the rest. It's not easy at all my fingers were soar for just over a week but I did all my pillars and head liner. Major PITA and the head liner needs to be redone and this time I'm going to take it somewhere to get it covered!!

Yeah I remember seeing his thread. I think Im just going to do it in two pieces and try and match up the center as best as I can.
I have ALOT of fabric so if it starts to come off, ill go to a shop and get it done again. But want to try do it myself first. haha |
