Rattles? What's your biggest one and name it here!
Just wondering if anyone else has rattles and if so, from where? I know we all have them although I can't figure out why exactly the Yaris is so prone to them. Yesterday I started developing one somewhere under the hood, sounds like something bumping/knocking into something else, yet I can't locate it at all. sounds like it's coming from near the drivers side of the engine bay. Kind of hear it up at the bottom of the windshield as well.
that's my rattle, how about yours? |

^^ my under the hood rattle is a broken air box. The curved part coming out of the bottom broke somehow, and now it rattles against the air box. If the "turn the radio up" fix didn't work so well, I probably would have super glued it by now

Well mine didn't really start until I installed the AFE intake. I've checked every single part of the heat shield to see if it's bumping up against anything and I couldn't find anything at all. It seems to really only do it when I put the car into D or R gears and it's idling. As soon as it takes off the noise will go away. No idea what it could be

Awhile ago I had a rattle near the driver glove box. It had me worried. Then I discovered it was coins in the coin holder that had caused the rattling sound. If annoys me enough I just take the coins out of the coin holder. Problem solved.

I didn't have any rattling until Tanabe installed the Medalion Touring on mine. It sounds like something plastic vibrating against a panel in the hatch / trunk area anytime I accelerate and the exhaust makes noise / vibrates.

No rattles, however, the car is noisy in general.

Wait until your car gets 20-40k miles, it will have all the issues...
The airbox is loose, and the curved part that takes in the air is rattling against the car and the plastic thing wont hold it in place anymore. Both windows when slightly open sound like they are sticky and are coming off the sticky part and back on it lots of times per second. They are also lose. The entire dash rattles when hitting most bumps. The seat belts rattle against the dumb plastic on the sides assuming no one is sitting in the car. This is not car related but my dumb radio front display is lose and makes more noise then anything when hitting a bump, I have to find a way to fix that. When a dump goes over the front tires it isnt as bad as when it gets to the rear tires, it makes the entire car jolt 3 times as bad, and makes everything rattle, and i really do not know why this happens. I have never seen this happen on another car. Now, as of my dads Honda, my friends Mercedes(2 of them), I have had no issues with any of what I said. Maybe its just Toyota = cheap? Or its just this car in general was made as cheaply and fast as possible? sighs. I hate noise. And what I need to fix soon that isnt a rattle is the smell from the A/C being on. Its getting really really bad. |

Remember this is an economy car. You can't compare a Mercedes with a Yaris. Try a Lexus.

Maybe it isn't the seat belts, but instead the cardboard top that covers the speakers that has become loose and is knowing up and down on the metal of the car? I had that once, and fixed it with a light cloth inbetween them.
Also, since I need to get my evaporator replaced, and the dash has to come out, I am going to probably disasemble the dash myself, and let someone do the work, then before I put it all back together, I want to dynomat everything I can, and then use very thin cloth/form inbetween ALL the pieces as I put the dash back together. Maybe even use clear silicon at the end to make it a snug/quiet fit. What do you all think of that? |

When it gets cold, my car rattles when its still getting warm. I found that one of the spots of rattling was actually the middle seat seat belt in the back rattling up top, so I locked it into place and it stopped for now.
Other rattles include the rear window and some parts of the front dash that I can't quite pinpoint. It's again only occasional and I've only been noticing it now that winter is coming and its getting colder out. |

I was able to pinpoint my big rattle under the hood finally. I knew it was coming from somewhere near the AFE intake. Well the spot that I thought it was, the vertical side nearest the batter, the edge of it looked like it was rubbing against the wheelwell bend because it had a few scratch lines. Well I was pushing the shield to see if that's where it was clanging from. It wasn't. It didn't make much sense. So I keep pushing the shield to make the noise happen, I look down at the area where you bolt it to the frame near the headlight assembly. Wouldn't you know it's the flat part of the shield with a partial cutout opening that's hitting up against the frame? So I pull on the shield slightly just to bend it away from the frame and it fired up the car. Seems like that's what it was because I went driving, gave it a bit of gas to shake it up a bit in there and when I came back home, the rattling wasn't there anymore.
