Question UK and US engine differences?

Hi all.

Still fairly new to the yaris and this forum, but I wonder if any of you have any thoughts on the differences to US and UK engines, or if indeed its a difference between p1 and p2 yarii.

below is a comparison between my engine (top), and Acron's from the Blazing Blue thread (below and wider shot).

Notice the location and orientation of the airbox and battery on the right. Anyone know if this difference is because of where the car is sold, or perhaps the year of manufacture?
My main reason for asking, is that the layout on Acron's engine is the one that leaves more room for the CAI systems from Apexi, AFE etc. Any guesses if these CAI's will still fit in my engine bay?

That is the airbox configuration for the old yaris as well as other similar cars at the time (1st gen Vios, xB, xA, etc). Just a packaging difference really... But I do not think your chassis will have the mounting points to move the battery around, though.

Thats interesting. According to some other forums, all the Japan built toyotas the age of mine (2001) had the 2NZ-FE engine.
Any major differences between the 2NZ and the 2SZ internally?

Ok... now I am confused.
Below is a pick of Katana's 2SZ-FE with a custom CAI. His intake enters the back of the engine, mine looks like it enters in the front like the 1NZ.

2NZ is more or less the 1NZ's little brother... Physically identical on the outside, just the stroke of the pistons (the distance it travels up and down) is a little shorter.

The 2SZ, while of the same displacement, is a completely different family of engines, with a more "traditional" configuration (intake at the firewall, exhaust in the front)

And like Kongo-Otto mentioned, there is now a new 1.3L engine, the 1NR, which is much more modern and efficient (a 1.33L engine, without any turbo, which has almost the same power output as the 1.5L 1NZ...)

Right, I think I have this worked out now, after a bit of trawling the yaris Uk forum.
The 1.3 engines (2sz with firewall air intake) are on Euro built 1.3 yarii, and all 1.3 yarii from sold in the uk from 2006. These use the same airbox as the 1.0 unit.
The yarii like mine, (<2006 built in japan) have the 2nz engine with the air intake behind the radiator. The battery orientation that initially confused me cant be explained by anyone but it seems to be purely cosmetic, but perhaps with the uk climate, a heavier duty battery was needed for cold morning starts and this meant it needed to be turned 90degrees?. There is a simple mod however to re-align the battery to allow a cone filter to sit behind the headlamp. Its noteworthy to mention that uk sold TS's also have the battery in this orientation.

Essentially, (in answer to my orginal post), these differences are down to BOTH the territory the car was sold in and the country of manufacture, and I have the 2nz lump.

Thanks for all the info.

Hi guys
I live in Chile,I have TOYOTA VITZ 2003 (japanese version) it has 1.3cc, auto transmission, with 2SZ-FE engine. I did a little mistake!! I burn the ECU? but not completely the olny the accelerator not works!!!!.
My question is: may I replace the 2SZ-FE ecu with a 2NZ-FE ecu? those engine work equal or not?
thanx

You Might want to start your own thread instead of hijacking someone elses with a completely unrelated question.
