Look Out Yaris Here Comes A Corvette.

Drove a 2001 Corvette today. Mind blowing acceleration and handling. It has 24k miles on it and they want $20k. They say on the highway it gets 30 mpg! Not fair to compare it to a Yaris but Im ready to cheat on it!

My brother has a 2004 LeMans edition Vette, a 6 speed. I've driven it occasionally and I prefer my Yaris :) The Vette has too much power for me! But I did ask him his mileage and he says 24/25 mpg on the highway is all he gets.

I wouldn't say "all" he gets, you make it seem like he's getting cut short lol. I love the Mazda Rx8 but it only makes about 200 whp and gets real world mileage of 14-15 city and 22-23 highway. And that's if you baby the living life out of it. For the power it's making, that's not bad mileage at all for the corvette :D

You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

The reason the corvette (and many BMW's) get great highway mileage is due to a very very tall overdrive gear. You are practically idling the engine at 60MPH in 6th gear. But try driving around town (or in a spirited manner) and you'll see under 20, if not single digits in the real world.

Look it up. . . check out the gear ratio for 6th on a corvette. And yes, both read and personally experienced. I love corvettes. Also the 1-2nd gear skip shift also helps.

I've had my '04 coupe for about 3 years and even in it's modded form (ported heads, cam, full exhaust, other bolt-ons) it sees 25 mpg with 426 whp, and it's an auto. My buddy's dad has an '01 six speed and has reported 30 mpg on the highway.

If you stay away from run flats they're not too bad. But I only drive mine about 5,000 miles a year so no worries! :D

I like the vettes. I like the 06 up for the paddle shift. I drove a couple before I bought my truck. I like very much.

Ya gotta pay to play dude...You only live once. I personally won't waste my whole life skimping and just getting by. I want to enjoy life.
I have my yaris as a DD for work, and the truck for a weekend toy.

I enjoy life as much as anyone. I like driving my Yaris. It's comfortable, has AC, it's nimble, and gets me to where the fun is. I'm so used to driving a smaller car, that driving anything larger feels strange. I had a 1991 Civic before this. In the event I ever want to drive something sportier, I will rent a car for a weekend. Personally, "truck" and "fun" are antonyms, but to each his own, YMMV.

Have you seen his truck??

A buddy of mine sold his S2000 recently and got a black Viper truck. I'm going to sell me S and my Vette in 2 years and pick up a fun little sport compact like the Yaris for daily duty and then finally buy what I've always wanted, a Viper.

It's all about having fun and enjoying. If the yaris makes you happy, by all means drive it and enjoy it. I personally like the feeling that 0-60 in under 5 seconds gives. I will never get that from the yaris, but after all, the yaris does what it does, and very well. Basic economical, dependable transportation.
"Truck and fun".... all I can say is apearently you just don't know. I won't comment any more about the truck, after all this is a yaris forum.

Truck and fun to me don't go together. It's not that I don't know, it's that your idea of fun and mine aren't the same, which is fine. I see a truck as just a work vehicle.

Put ME behind the wheel and I'll get single digit numbers. . . the Corvette's mileage is very unforgiving with a lead food. . . but put in a RESPONSIBLE driver and you can get great mileage without a doubt. It's all about getting into OD as quickly as you can.

PS, 2010 Corvette gear ratios, manual (auto):
First:
2.97 (4.03)
Second:
2.07 (2.36)
Third:
1.45 (1.53)
Fourth:
1.00 (1.15)
Fifth:
0.71 (0.85)
Sixth:
0.56 (0.67)

Both fifth AND sixth gears are technically overdrive gears (PS, some people don't even know what that is, and thinks it's a button on an auto that makes a car go faster. . . )
