best heat wrap???

im trying to find a good heat wrap for my intake manifold because it gets preety hot. whats the best material? there are mainly exhaust heat wraps but i guess it'll do the job in the intake as well. are the titanium wraps better than the ceramic ones?

heres my intake manifold

You can try RPM in Campo Rico for some wrap or Dynotuned in RP, materials are very important all you need is to keep the heat at a minimum, try those places and you'll be good

Don't use a header wrap on a intake... Header wrap is designed to keep heat in, you need a product that keeps radiant heat out.

Something that provides an air-gap between the intake and outside heat sources will yield the best results.

These work well, but are not great to look at: http://www.designengineering.com/cat...l-tube-extreme

This works good, but not the best as it does not provide an air-gap, we have used this stuff on a number of cars: http://www.designengineering.com/cat...r/reflect-gold

We found this one works really well on systems that still use an air filter box, rather than just a tube with a filter. It will stick to anything, and puts an air-gap between the intake/box surface and the heat barrier: http://www.designengineering.com/cat...und-insulation

Not a big difference, but it all helps.

my intake burns to the touch after a drive do you think the tape from the tunnel shield would last? or would it peel off because of heat

Floor and Tunnel Shield was designed to withstand direct temperatures up to 1750°F. Because of it’s unique material, it is capable of insulating against unwanted road noise up to 50%.

Constructed utilizing an embossed 10 mil aluminum face bonded to a 1/8” composite fiberglass insulation, Floor and Tunnel Shield is backed with an aggressive adhesive that holds past 450°F. Only 3/16” thickness it requires minimal clearance and can be shaped and trimmed for a custom fit.

Floor and Tunnel Shield provides the optimal way to reflect heat away from vehicle components and perfect for protecting under hoods, firewalls, fuel cells, exterior areas such as transmission tunnel, floorpans and other under-vehicle locations.

I doubt you would still have your fingers if you touched it and it was over 450F. I would also ditch the plastic valve cover cover it is just going to trap heat.

i also thought the wrap was to insulate a temperature. since is the intake manifold i thought it insulated the cold air and kept the heat fom entering since its to keep the temperature low

The heat of the manifold is more than likely being conducted from the head itself. That's one of the reasons they started using plastic intake manifolds. Plastic doesn't transfer heat very well.

No doubt you will pull heat off of the head... But having the radiator and fan blowing in that direction is not helping either, and wrapping it could block much of that.

This thread is making me think about my intake upgrade from plastic to aluminium.

- The main problem of intake high temperatures is the contact with the head.

- 2nd problem is the engine bay temperature itself.

- 3rd problem is the air temperature inside the intake (For N/A engines this is around the same as above).

- 4th problem is because of the engine the design the radiator fan blowing directly to the intake.

So I ask if I replace the intake from plastic to aluminium, I would probably gain better airflow but with rather higher temperatures? Please discuss!

What is your experience Garm on the custom alu intake?

I have very nice intake temps, my tuner was really happy with the set up, especially since I am running a fairly small intercooler. Unlike Jouna, I can put my hand (BRIEFLY) on the intake after a driving session.

jouna, you got a few more pics of that intake?

But You have a fairly large radiator with double high speed fans

i prefer the aluminum intake rather than the plastic mine does its job perfectly and i have a cometic like gasket for it .it keeps air cooler since it has a gap between the head the gasket and the intake

hey garm there are pictures at the end of page 1 in here...
