PC Help
Hi all,
I'm thinking of updating my Desktop Acer Aspire M1640 4GB RAM to this http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_16807.htm Should I go for it or not and why? Also price is in Australian Dollars, not US as I live in Australia. Thanks for the help. p.s. Does anyone know anything about the IntelŽ HD Graphics chip? Would it be enough to run black ops?

Black Ops would require a dedicated video card to play properly. Is there a reason you're opting for a laptop?

Is the computer primarily going to be used for gaming? What all do you want it to do? What is your price range?

I currently play Command & Conquer Zero Hour and Age of Mythology. I'd like to start playing games like COD Black ops. But normally I just stuff around surfing the net, facebook, youtube and emails. I also use it for work, making documents.
I would just like something faster than what i've got. Something I can watch Digital Tv on and record as well. I'm currently running Vista and this new one comes with Windows 7. Price range $799.

The Video card requirements for Black Ops are:
Shader 3.0 or better 256MB NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ 8600GT / ATI RadeonŽ X1950Pro or better So, if you are looking for a laptop to run it on, the video needs to be better than the Intel HD chipset.

Obviously for surfing, documents, etc. it will be more than enough.
For gaming, however, you would be better spending money on a desktop unit and to save the most money, building it yourself from components (or picking the components and having someone else put it together for you if you aren't comfortable with it). Laptops that are capable of keeping up with current games come at a premium and you won't be satisfied with your current choice for gaming. The one you are looking at has on board or integrated graphics. What that means is, the graphics chip shares the laptops resources (RAM, CPU, etc) for providing graphics. It limits what you can do gaming wise considerably. You would probably be looking at about $150-200 more for a decent entry level gaming laptop. That being said... if you built a desktop with the same money, you would be able to build a system that would play pretty much any game on the market at full graphics (assuming you already have an optical drive that can be re-used) for a little over $1000. You'll have to make a choice between either mobility (laptop) or gaming performance (desktop) in the price range you're looking at. |
