Are you sure it's the compressor? A loose belt can cause some interesting noises, and also a bad water pump can be noisy as well (and everything is close together there). You can bypass the AC compressor with a belt for a Yaris with no A/C to be sure. If it is a bad bearing, it probably can be pressed out and replaced, but it may be easier/cheaper to replace the compressor with one from a wrecked car.

Yes ,it was the AC compressor bearing. It was confirmed by a mechanic who used a stethoscope like thing on the compressor today. He also told it's easy to fit a recondition unit than pulling the bearing out. thanks CTScott and have u got an idea about the price of a recondition unit ?

Over here - Used ones from wrecks sell for $150 to $250 on ebay and remanufactured ones sell for about $350.

hi kosy m ,
I would be very doubtful it was the compressor. Dont know if you have a 1.0 liter 12v 1kr-fe engine, if you have , then the water pump would be prime suspect (a known fault). Tke some photos of the area with your digital camera with flash on. If you see anything like pink deposits in the area, its gotta be the water pump. The pump has been modified for the 1kr-fe to a totally different unit which cures the problem. The stethoscope method of finding the cause can be tricky as the noise will migrate to other belt driven components and try to trick you. the 1kr-fe is used in the toyota aygo vehicle in europe, lots of yaris gen 2 and aygo owners have had problems with the pump, some after only 4000mls. http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/foru...owtopic=118041 http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/foru...owtopic=118041 its a long shot that your vehicle is a 1kr-fe as they are not popular in your area but this may give you some futher ideas . |
