Air Condition option
When I was making the deal with the dealer awhile ago I said NO to the air conditioning option.
Well I just looked under the hood in the Day Light and all the hardware is in place for air conditioning. I checked my bill and there is no charge for air conditioning which was some $1,000 extra. What gives? Now I'll have to go and try the A/C button and see what gives. It's only 2 C outside but I'm sure I'll notice the difference if there really is air conditioning in the car. Do all Toyota's come equipped with air and only some have to pay for it? Interesting.

Huh. If you have a compressor etc you have ac. Never heard of a yaris without it. Maybe it is standard equipment like door handles and hence not on the option list?
Possibly when you said you did not want ac the salesman just to please the customer arranged it so you didnt think you had it. Or paid for it. But you do. And did. |

My 2007 came with AC and it was not an added charge for it.

There are some yarises without AC. But it was probably easier for the dealer to sell you one WITH ac than wait for one that didn't.

Mine doesn't have a/c...and therefore no a/c button
Bought while living in the maritimes....no a/c underhood which makes for some trial&error for nst u/d pulley belt sizing and blitz s/c belt sizing as my belts are quite a bit shorter Betrivent is likely correct, though....in southern ontario you'd be hard pressed to find a car on the lot without air. Consider yourself lucky...you just negated at least $1000 of depriciation if you ever sell the car

Ah you live in Canada!
When I grew up in upstate NY it was very rare to see a car with AC. Rare to see an air conditioneer in a house for that matter. We viewed it as an extravagence. I would have to think though a car without AC would be hard to sell. |

Thanks for the replies people.
After I posted I went out and drove my daughter to her friends 10km away from here. I turned on the A/C and it did get cold in the car but than again it was only 2 degree C outside. Maybe the dealer did throw it in just to sell a car, but as a hint to anyone buying a new Yaris..... Say you dont want A/C and save a bunch of cash. We'll see in the summer if I really do have it. But as I said, all the hardware is in the car. Cool.. in more ways than one. hehehe

Well if you have the compressor you have AC. I can't see any situation where a compressor would be put into a car and the rest of the AC system not. If you want to check again look around the left side of the engine bay for silver tubing. If you see some, you have AC.
(That's left while you're looking at the engine bay, not left relative to the car) |

The silver tubing is there Betrivent. As is the compressor and the heat exchanger in front of the radiator. I was hoping by not ordering A/C I would have a little more room upfront by the grill as well as save some cash as I only used my A/C twice in 12 years with my Golf. Well at least I saved some cash.

Does it never get hot and humid in Ontario? I could never live without AC where I live.

Remember Bonnie and Clyde? Cyldes parents were sharecroppers in Texas before it became completely uneconomical to make a living doing that. They moved to what became Ft Worth and lived under a wagon for a year. My brother lives in Houston. It would kill me to be without AC there. |

Of course it does. But thats what the windows are for. Roll them down and let the breeze flow in.

no a/c means one less pulley causing parasitic loss on the serpentine belt = win

Well, opening the windows doesn't help on those really humid days in July or August. On those days, you really need air conditioning!

In Toronto, unless you enjoy humid heat (some people do), ac is absolutely essential.

I couldn't live without my AC in the summer. I'm not sure about earlier years, but in 2010 the AC comes as standard equipment.
