Juddery clutch

My Yaris is X registered. When I bought it (2nd hand) is developed a juddery clutch in 1st gear going into 2nd gear once the car had warmed up. The clutch was new when I bought it and my car dealer changed it for another new clutch thinking that he head fitted a faulty clutch. It ran really smoothly for the 1st 2 months following its 2nd new clutch. It is now juddering when it gets warm but only from a stop start in 1st gear and occasionally when reversing. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Oil on the friction plate will cause this as well as glazed spots on the flywheel. Neither fix is easy but both should be done at the same time since they both require pulling of the transmission. The fix for the oil is replace the rear main seal and replace your clutch disc if it was indeed the rear main. If it's the flywheel then just have it resurfaced if it isn't warped. A decent machine shop will be able to tell you one way or the other.

On the outside chance the transmission is leaking into the bellhousing, you will know by looking at the seal that is right behing the clutch fork. That area is not under any real pressure but if it leaks it can ruin your clutch disc as well. The rear main seal isn't under a lot of pressure but it is a culprit for bad clutches when it leaks.

I've heard more than one person mention this problem. I've had this issue on occasion, on cold starts. I always just thought that this is how it was, never questioned it.

My clutch shuddered a lot. In fact, it was so bad, it was replaced under warranty at 24,000 or so miles. I paid and extra $40 and paid the difference on the TRD clutch. At 54,000 miles w/o issue. It still shudders a bit, especially if it's cold, but it's better than it was.

BTW, this should probably under a different section.
