The 81/91 are likely date codes and the T3 is the identifier. It appears to be a BAV19W - BAV21W: http://www.diodes.com/datasheets/ds12024.pdf

Unfortunately, since these look to be used largely for commercial use, obtaining one (or even a few) looks pretty impractical.
I was trying to match some typical diodes found at a place like radioshack against the electrical characteristics in that link, but no luck. Getting the piece from you looks like the best way to proceed. I'll send you my info shortly. Also: Is anyone as baffled as myself as to how this happened? Technically I've been running the ECM in "limp mode," so maybe that circuit was spending too much time outside it's expected operational range or something? Weird. |

Ill check tomorrow at a local electronics surplus store. Radioshack wont have anything like this, you need to go to a real electronics store....

![]() So I discovered something interesting while digging around. Apparently, the 2008 model year switched ECM models only two months into production. Common sense says Toyota must have found something pretty bad to merit changing the ECM during the production run, rather than waiting for the following year. |

^ That's exactly what I'm talking about. I have 89661-52G50 and they started using 89661-52G51 in 11/07. Haven't been able to find anyone else with ECM failures though, but then again that is a fairly small window.

Crashy and Crashy 2 both have the 89661-52G50. The outer aluminum of Crashy's ECM is super oxidized. I really should open it to see if any of the salt has made its way inside yet. There wasn't a TSB on the change, so the 89661-52G51 isn't considered a necessary replacement, so they probably did some minor tweaking to the AT control, since the MT didn't get revved.

Leave it to USPS to take what should have been 1 day shipping and turn it into what is going to be at least 3 days now. Ugh.

Welp, this board is dead. Diode made no difference (yes I observed polarity).
Let's talk about replacement ECMs. My number one concern is if I'm going to need reprogramming or not. From what I understand, since I don't have an immobilizer I shouldn't need it. I'll have a VIN mismatch obviously but I'm pretty over that. Also probably going to grab a part# 89661-52G51 since they're more available. |

Well that's sucks! I gues you just need a non Imobilizer ECU as a replacement then.

from what i have gathered from a mechanic (chrysler but same thing), you will be able to switch it out without issue. if you have keyless entry (lock and/or unlock on your key fob) you may need to reprogram this feature. he said it depends on the specific car. (Im sure CTScott would be able to answer that)
As per the chip key thing, has anyone confirmed that a new ECM would need this programmed in? from what my dash cam caught of My ECM replacement they did not program any keys (nor did they ask/ensure i had all my keys with me). They may have transferred the data off my old one onto my new one but i am not sure

With a non transponder key one the only thing that ideally needs to be programmed is the VIN. This can be done via techstream. If you don't have it done, if your state does an inspection or emissions check, where they plug into the OBD connector, the VIN will read incorrectly. If you don't want to deal with the dealer for the VIN reprogram, ship me the ECM and I'll program it for you.
