Distorted audio (HELP)

I dunna how to make a new post lol but I hope someone will be able to help me. I have a 2007 Yaris sedan. I'm not happy with the stock speakers, I have a sub running off the stock HU but I keep hearing distorted bass coming from the speakers in the back and the doors.

I was thinking about changing the speakers and leaving the HU stock I wanna keep the look. What speakers would you recommend? I need them to run off the HU so they should still be loud but with no bass. I'm thinking something with low watt rating and resistance. I dunna

Thank you

Start off by unhooking the subwoofer from your factory radio before you screw it up.

You really need to upgrade the headunit. That's most likely what is causing it to sound like crap, the stock speakers are fine.

Buy an amp to go with your woofer, run it from the rear left and right signal.

Ohh no sorry about that. It's running off an amp. I meant my HU is stock. The sub is perfect. I just can't take the bass coming from the stock speakers.

I don't know what brand and specifications I'll need to look out for when getting new speakers that will run directly off the HU with now compromise with regards to volume and sound

If you buy speakers the stock HU won't make them sound as they supposed to, because the stock HU has very little power (watts out), in other words any upgrade of speakers will be too much for the HU.

That's why people either upgrade HU or getting a small 4 channel amp with new speakers works better.

Depends on how much $$$ you are willing to spend and how much DIY are you up to.

Oh okay thanks man, I'll go the 4 channel amp route. What do you think the best postion for the amp would be? Don't want two amps against the rear seats

Distortion is usually caused by the user. If you have the volume cranked 30/30 on the headunit, that's why it sounds distorted. If your Bass is set 6/6 on the headunit go to the Negatives. If you're trying to compensate for the subwoofer overpowering your speakers clipping(distortion) is not the answer. You're going to "blow" your stock speakers.

Google search:

Signal clipping
How to set your radio Volume
How to set the gains on an amp.

You can find alot of that info here on the forum if you utilize the Search function.

All of the stuff you're asking is a learning process, so please don't take me as being rude, but do some research and get some basic knowledge. Heck you could even go on Youtube and type in some of the search material i gave you and get some basic answers.

If you don't want to replace the stock Headunit maybe look into an Equalizer ($50 - $75). If you have a HiLo Adapter or (LOC Line Output Converter) I don't know what was written on the box when you purchased it. But you can run the input from that LOC and have the signal (output) for your Lows,Mids,Highs.

If you don't want the bass going through your speakers, I believe you can get a filter that goes in front of the speaker to only allow frequencies above a certain rage to pass through (I think it's called a hi-pass filter but I'm not certain). I don't know what the cost of these is, but I remember seeing them some time ago.

But, like others said, you're going to be really limited by that stock head unit.
