I actually worry about what they say about insurance companies and police using the information.

I am a spirited driver (to an extent). I like to get my yaris up to speed quickly. I like to wind out first and second gear but then go about 2 over the speed limit (literally, my wife laughs at me for it). The insurnace companies don't like quick acceleration and would probably have issue with me or increase my rates even though I haven't had any issues, incidents, accidents, or even tickets in close to 15 years.

I had the "snapshot" installed from Progressive years ago when it first came out. They told me to send it back after six months. It was cool because then you could see everything you did on line. I kind of miss it.

I rarely exceed 45 mph.

I have a friend with a corvette. His has a "little black box" and he heard (via forums) that chevrolet would deny warranty work depending on how the car was driven. Certain conditions like more than 1 lateral G for more than a predetermined time would set an alarm (not one that the driver knows about).

His is just a "race ready" vehicle though he does try to leave it street legal just to nudge at his friends that have gutted theirs completely. "yea, I may have come in second, but mine is legal to go to the store..." that sort of stuff.

Ha I wish I had my 99 Miata back! No bb and I could have my friends begging to get out of the car and never exceed 50 mph!

They called it a chick car.

Big mistake!

I have been meaning to ask my insurance if they offer some type of mounted camera to lower my insurance. I understand that if I get in a wreck at a track that I am fully responsible for my damages. But ever since I hit that deer, few believe I was going 40mph.

Also, I don't know about other countries but in the States, driving is a privilege, not a right. They givith and they can takith it away.

Mounted camera would be nice but could be a two edged sword. Id only have one that I knew about.

I have a feeling such self procured evidence would mean nothing in court though.

I don't trust LEO/Insurance companies to not manipulate the data to meet their own agendas.

It sure is!

Once a guy fell asleep at the wheel and crossed a double yellow line coming right at me. If I hadnt swerved off the road we would have hit head on drivers side to drivers side. As it was my horn woke him up and he ran away. I followed him and made him stop. Neighbors called the cops.

He didnt have a drivers liscence and claimed the car was his friends. The only ID in the car was an expired insurance card.

The cops let him go.

He was privileged all right!

I was listening to Kim Komando recently and she was rattling off a bunch of things that will eventually make their way into our lives. The one that struck me the most was that eventually, if you speed, law enforcement will lock the doors to your car and (in some safe manner -- gradually?) cut off power to your car so that you have to pull over. You will be locked inside your car, and a LEO will soon arrive to give you a speeding ticket.

Things like that are why I'm keeping my old 86 Hardbody.

My mind was on the same wavelength yours is while I was listening to that show. Unfortunately, I don't have an 80's vintage vehicle. If I move (or get a deal I can't pass up on a small 2nd place close to a ski area) I plan to add a vehicle like yours.....one as 'pre Orwellian' or 'NSA unfriendly' as possible .
