keyless entry issues

My oem keyless entry was having issues unlocking and locking my 2007 yaris hatchback. I replaced the battery and it was working for a while when I was close to the car, once I get about 5 feet or further away the keyless doesn't work anymore.

I then tried to see if the keyless was working by redoing the keyless entry with the ignition 2 times and the door 2 times and reprogram. this works with the key but the key still wont work further then 5 feet away. while doing this the alarm also now does 4 beeps when I unlock the door instead of 2 beeps like it did before. am I missing something here? I feel a bit lost. any help is appreciated.
