after work on Saturday, i went out to my car and saw a scratch. A-hole didn't even leave an apologetic note...hard to see, but towards the middle of the pic.

Well, it -will- make a difference but it won't make it perfect. I say try it and then put some thick wax on.

Then strip the wax off and touch it up if you aren't happy with the McGuire's.

i don't have those power tools for wet sanding and buffing (i watched the pros do it on my car before, and don't think elbow grease will be able to do it).

I have never seen a pro wet sand with anything other than his hand.... and in that small of an area you rub that out with some rubbing coumpound in a few minutes, would not take long at all

so i should just buy either Scratch-X or some rubbing compound, then wax?

it will not be perfect, but you'll actually have to know beforehand that a scratch was there in order to find it. give scratch-x a shot. i think its like $11. unless it was super-duper deep, you wont need touch up paint. just some good ol' elbow grease...

what's the definition of super-duper deep? this scratch is almost like the rock chips on my hood. does that fall under super-duper deep? i guess my arm will be dead for a day...heh.

damn, thats IS deep. yeah, if you can see the metal/primer, its pretty deep. but as with any other paint restoration, the trick is to go with the least abrasive action first, and work your way up to the real gritty and expensive stuff. try scratch-x + your arm first. if that doesnt work, take it to a pro. if it does work, you saved yourself some $$...

a couple parts of the scratch is that deep. the rest i think rubbing compound or Scratch-X will work just fine on. the deeper areas of this scratch is whitish-gray. oh well, there's another light scratch on my car, so i'm going to buy some Scratch-X when i have the time.
