Toyota Aygo

If Scion brings the Aygo over to the US as a Scion, as many are predicting, anybody gonna be interested in the little Aygo? It's kind of a neat looking little hatch.

Hmmm... the IQ was a dismal failure for Scion, so I can't understand why Scion would consider another city car for it's so called "youth" oriented line-up. Scion either needs new leadership or should just fold up shop.

Id sooner have an iQ over the Smart Car it was a (shameless) copy of but....I have neither!

Yes, like Saturn before it's demise I think Scion has lost its way.

I really like the iQ too, but the lack of a manual transmission is the reason why one isn't in my driveway.

I had to Google the Aygo since I have never heard of it.....can't say I'd line up to buy one. I don't care for the styling at all.

That's exactly why I wasn't interested in the IQ. No manual is an absolute deal breaker. I currently drive a 13 Avalon Limited, and while it is cushy and nice, I absolutely miss the manual. That's why next year(if Mazda hasn't got their hands on the Yaris) I am gonna likely buy a 16 Yaris SE. Kinda liked the blue, but now I am much more partial to the white. The other half thinks I am gonna be so unhappy going from a Avalon to a Yaris. I completely welcome the change. Always loved small hatches. I'm not nearly as fancy as I thought I was when I bought the Avalon. The Avalon is so boring. My first car was a 91 Festiva. Me and my my dad worked on that together. That's how I got my love for small hatchbacks.

If Scion brings the Aygo here I would consider it, or more accurately I would have considered it. Now that I have the Yaris I see no reason to consider any other car. Unless it gets totaled in an accident I plan on keeping it for a long time.

I'm currently in Europe so I've seen a lot of Aygos. I like the way it looks. To me it is somewhat reminiscent of the 2nd gen Yaris. Somewhat. It is small but for me it would probably meet my needs. However most of America is not like me. I doubt it would sell well here.

So if Scion is thinking of this as someway to revive the brand I think they are mistaken. If they want to increase sales they should retool the factories and start reproducing the first gen xB.

I though the IQ was a great little inner city car and a much more economical and reliable vehicle than a Smart car.
Problem is Toyota never marketed the car so its the rare person who's even heard of an IQ,

As for this Toyota Aygo? Sorry Toyota i'll pass on this sorry looking appliance.

Most Americans clearly do not like small cars (or hatchbacks), and prefer sedans/coupes, SUV type vehicles, and trucks.

IMO, the current SE looks great in white with a black interior....except for the wheels (same for other colors)....but the wheels, of course, can always be changed at any time.

Last fall went in to a local dealer to buy 2 new 2015s (Rav4 for wife, Camry for MIL) and saw a silver IQ. Salesman said he would give me an unbelievable deal on it but when I asked about a manual trans that was the end of it. I explained I had a 2010 Yaris that was a manual and would never even consider an auto. Bill C

I despise anything automatic in general and out of principle, but the point of the iQ was to bounce around the city in more comfort than a Smart. So for pure city traffic, its CVT is added comfort and unlike the Smart, its 96 HP do allow it to get out of its own way if not exactly making it nimble.

On the other hand, many roads around DFW are crap and its short wheelbase make it way too bouncy. Not the car's fault. I guess Toyota's engineers assumed the US had streets worthy of a first world country.

Given its size and weight, the fuel economy of the iQ is rather unimpressive, slightly worse than the Yaris. But it came a lot better equipped, with power mirrors, power windows, power locks and Bluetooth-enabled HD radio with aux and USB, all installed at the factory, and more complete gauges placed where they belong.

The Aygo would probably fare a lot better in the US than the iQ. Oddly enough, the Fiat 500 seems to be doing OK and that one is pretty much the same size as the iQ.

I think Toyota/Scion put the nails in the IQ's coffin immediately. No manual was a definite no go. And the interior was incredibly boring. And then comes the inflated price. The only character out of that car was the exterior. And the Smart has never been a big seller in the US anyway. They should have brought something to sell against the hot selling Chevy Spark. And that would be the Aygo. Although Toyota is late to the game with this as usual.

Mini cars like the iQ could only be successful in the US if the price became in scale to the size of the car. That's how most US buyers see things. The fact that the iQ cost more than the Yaris, which was twice the car, spelled certain failure for the iQ. It would be like walking into the dealer and seeing the Corolla priced higher than Camry (comparing proper trims). e.g. Base Camry - $22K, base Corolla - $24K. How many Corolla's do you think would move?

If I'm standing near an iQ at the dealer, I would expect to walk over to the window sticker and see a price sub-$10K decently equipped. Yet, it was typically over $15K. All the while, Nissan was still selling the big Versa sedan for $9,999 to start.

The problem is that the iQ was actually more costly to build than a Yaris. Toyota wasn't pricing it to fail on purpose. The reason was all the unique parts required for the iQ. Lots of new things were designed and engineerd to make the iQ happen. Even things like rear hatch airbags. Just the overall packaging was a huge engineering undertaking. Toyota could have decided to just lose money on each sale to make it successful much like early Prius's and some other models. Believe it or not, Toyota even lost money on the $375,000 Lexus LFA in order to offer such a halo car.

If they imported exactly what the Japanese buy sure! It torture seeing cars like the Aygo and the VW Polo for sale elsewhere but not for us.

But you KNOW what Toyota would do...theyd gussy the car up like a cheap whore. Thats what they did with the iQ. Then they price it high...as much as a Yaris or even a Corolla. For $10-12k theyd have a lot more takers.

Sad isnt it?

Toyota Aygo...... Why not? How many 1,000s of Chevy Sparks are on the road? Toyota needs a segment replacement for the IQ. Only negative history I know of was the dreaded accelerator pedal which plagued several 05' to 09' Toyota products. While gas prices have dropped for now, you know they'll rebound once full "fracking" regulation are in place and enforced. Besides Czech Republic labor rates are some of the lowest in central Europe. Couldn't be any worse than the Yugo.
