P0500 CODE - Toyota Yaris Forums

Hello fellow yaris folks. I need help. My 2009 yaris threw a P0500 code and the speedometer and odometer do not work. The code says (Veh speed sensor A malfunction. This car has ABS and I'm confused as to where this sensor is. Has anyone here had this issue before and know where is this sensor ?

The sensor is supposedly mounted on top of transmission in the area under the battery tray.

Yeah but how about the sensors on the abs wheels ? some how i heard those also apply to this problem. Also my car was stalling or hesitating to accelerate
after driving for a while and i'm not sure if that's got to do with the sensor or the tranny actually has an issue.

It is my understanding thatToyota didn't move toward input from ABS sensors until Gen3.

ahh okay. So what's your opinion on the car hasitating a little or wanting to stall while driving ? Do you think it's the actual tranny having issues or just the sensor telling the computer the tranny has a problem with speed ?

Has anyone here previously replaced one of these speed sensors that's mounted on the manual tranny ? i searched around the internet and could not find a video or instructions on how to do that.

Pretty much the same thing. Just envision the air box in the video as our battery tray.

Thanks for the reply but i believe that link you posted is for the toyota corrola not a yaris. And the sensor in that video does not look like the one for a Manual transmission.

Yes I know it is for Corolla and the sensor looks different. Process is the same for the Yaris.

It's close to useless but this short shows you what you're looking at once the battery has been removed.

I did a little research.

Just fyi , the sensor for the manual tranny is not under the battery tray it's close to the fire wall and it looks different than the one in the video.

UPDATE; found the wires chewed off by some varmint or rat. All 3 wires from that sensor were chewed off and so luckily i found the other end of the wires and just re- solder them back together to the connector. Back to normal. hate those squirrel or rats chewing stuff.
