He's down already, I'm just covering him while I scan for other threats.

It was part of a Force on Force class using Training rounds and the bastard was stabbing a Quickie Mart employee during a robbery attempt.

I'll stick with my .22 target rifle (12 lbs empty) and my 20-ga side-by-side-by, thanks all the same. That collection is too frikkin "survivalist" for my taste.

Stats show that kids that grew up participating in shooting sports with their fathers do better in life than avg. They get better educations, better jobs, better relationships, less involvement in crime, etc.

Now this is not specific to Shooting sports, it's more about the time spent with their father/family than it is about the specific thing they are doing. It could be fishing, baseball, chorus, etc which are also things those same fathers that teach their kids to shoot do with their families.

The fact is that 2 things are more likely to happen if that father continues this with his son.

1.) The boy will grow up knowing about the dangers and safe handling of firearms so he will be less likely to have an accident with one, or mess with one out of curiosity.

2.) He will do better in life than kids that grow up without "That Kind" of interaction with their father.

So, you don't have a taste for surviving?

Oh SHit! Now you've done it, guns and killing your own dinner in one thread?

I'll get the beer if you bring the snacks, this could be a long night.

Surviving WHAT?!? Life? Yeah, bnut I don't have to shoot anyone to do that. Surviving nuclear holocaust? Rather be right under the first one, thanks. Private armies with machine guns ... Sorry - don't want to tread on anyone's toes here

Nah, count me out of the "shoot to survive" crowd. Nothing personal, but I seriously doubt anyone will have to in this country.

I'm guessing that little hurricane thing in NOLA didn't get any air time on your local news.

Yeah , I remember when Hurricane Hugo came through SC in 89 . Things got real PRIMITIVE .No electricity for weeks. I was one of the few and smart who installed a manual pump for my wells . Peeps were lined up for miles and weeks to get fresh clean water from me . I didn't charge anybody a penny .
The Audibon Society offered to pay all my property taxes until I die . Which means I could retire right now to my 60 Ac farm and live off the land . But I love cars and guitars and will deal with the world for now .

Next time I can beat a hurricane with a rifle, I'll be sure to give you a call. Luckily, we don't have levees to break up here, we are all above sealevel to start with.

Hopefully someone will be there with a gun protecting me if I can't protect myself.
exactly...

If the kid knows what a gun is, how to use it, and most importantly UNDERSTANDS the consequences of any mishandling... there is a slim to nil chance he will accidentally shoot himself/one of his friends/me in the face.

Now of course, if his dad tells him to shoot anyone/anything that gets within 5 feet of him or his mom... thats another story.

Point is, teach instead of hide... the unknown and forbidden is more attractive than candy to a baby.

Hey MudBug, You do not have nearly enough SBR's, or Cans! When you make it to the East Coast come and play with belt fire toys. So, air cooled, or water cooled veterans peak your interest?

I really hope that this form is not that anal. Believe, or not it takes all kinds of folks to make this world go round. I personally do not base my feelings on any single subject, but more so the total essence which makes up a person.

Prejudice is no more then ignorance no matter what the subject matter is.
