I'm not sure, but I also think it is less distracting for night driving. On my Acura, I always had to turn down the instrument lighting at night. I have not found that to be necessary on the Yaris.

I find my eyes leave the road less to check my RPMS or speed w/ the centre location... not that it matters to any real or significant extent though of course. That was just something I noticed :D
