Simple re features = less to go wrong (I know...to a certain extent you are stating the reality of the landscape...not how you necessarily feel about the Yaris). Didn't Consumer Reports just name the Yaris the most reliable subcompact?...and Consumer Reports doesn't even like the Yaris.

You're right. In the U.S., when gas prices are low, a frugal mindset (with some) goes out the window and sales = likely migrate to other vehicles. If some of the people who let that mindset go out the window kept it instead while prices are low...they might have more to save and invest...and we might have fewer people in dire financial straits in this country.
