One of my apprentices had two uncles, one of which was bald, the other with a full head of hair, all grey. They always called each other names (baldy, old grey mare etc) until one day, the grey-haired uncle said:

"I have a theory. Hair grows normally until one hits forty, then it grows in as well as out. If it grows in and hits brain, it turns grey. If it grows in and hits fresh air, it dies and falls out!"

The theory was accepted as fact from then on.

(My wavy blond hair is long gone, by the way...)
