My general situation at the moment combined with the thread about the garbage in the Pacific inspired me to leave this @ change.gov. I'll let you guys know if I hear back.

Quote:
First of all, I want to say that I am extremely thankful that we have such a great team of people getting ready to take this country in the right direction. As a 23 year old male that has struggled in these tough times, I can sincerely appreciate this moment in American history.

I said long before the election was over that as a vocal supporter of this cause, I felt like if this ticket got elected my work was not done. It is one thing to say you believe in something. It is another to do something about it. I would like to do the latter.

I have been looking into joining the armed forces, although I will admit that because of this country's lackluster foreign policy in the last 8 years I am reluctant. Not only that, but I have certainly met some opposition from my family on the matter. This should be of no surprise.

Having said that, there are many great young minds and spirits in this country that have been somewhat disenfranchised by Bush policies and the general direction of the country under his leadership. I know that this ticket emphasized the importance of service and my only hope is that that emphasis continues throughout. I am not sure if I could ever join the armed forces. I am not a front line type of person, but like I said, I am smart and motivated and if I could donate my mind to any cause in the name of our great nation I would.

I think we have a chance to do things in the next four years that will set the standard for those to come. One shining example for me is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a problem that so many are unaware of and one that is so indicative of what we face in this day and age. Wouldn't it be remarkable if we could tackle projects like this and make headway? It would send a statement that this generation was not only ready to elect a candidate that claimed change, but that we were willing to roll up our sleeves and help in the process.

I like many my age go to school part time and work full time because I have to. If I had the chance to sign up for a government program, leave this town, help our cause, make some money and get my education, I wouldn't even have to think twice. These are the programs that our country needs. It may sound like a new New Deal, and maybe it is to an extent, but it is obvious that the free market isn't this society's muse. It is the people who make this country great, and we need to recapture that. I hope I can be one of many to help in doing so.

I left all of my contact information along with this note. Please, if there is anything I can be made aware of regarding what I just spoke of, feel free to contact me.
Thank you very much. I wish you all the best of luck.
