The actually origin of Redneck comes from when the coal mines of West-Virginia unionized, the sourthen most counties forbid the unionization and actually hired mercenaries to kill anyone who opposed them. The rebellious forces of the people that fought the mercenaries and the county governments wore a red handkerchief around their neck, hence the term "redneck".
