The Fiesta is very impressive to drive - I've driven both the Zetec (sports) version and the base model, and they have a lot of get up and go. They sit well on the road, and there's noticeably less body-roll than the Yaris. The base model Fiesta is considerably more expensive than a base model Yaris, however - With the CL Fiesta selling for around $18,500 whereas the YR Yaris is around $15,990 over this way. Only thing to take into consideration there is the difference in engine capacity..
That being said, I hope to stick with Toyota as long as they make good, reliable cars and I wouldn't consider trading my Yaris for a Fiesta til I see what Toyota brings out as the next gen Yaris in a couple of years time.. Or (here's hoping) the iQ comes to Australia.

Personally, I don't really see that much of a similarity between the two. The Jazz has had only minor exterior changes in the past nine years, whereas this was a complete overhaul for Ford. And given the timing, the face-lift Fiesta and the Jazz were both released mid-2008, and both were released around Sept/Oct 2007, with the Ford Verve appearing virtually unchanged. But that's my 2c!
