A Mechanical gauge is a mechanical gauge. They all operate the same way. Personally I am a fan of VDO. I have used their boost gauges many of times.
No, xbg has much more money than me. Autometer gauges, not the high end ones, are reasonably priced. So Sunpro - $30, Autometer - $60 = worth it, IMO.
