How to increase MPG

I have a 2007 hatchback with a manual transmission. I've read about people getting 40+mpg and mine consistently stays around 30-32. I have an aftermarket headunit (Pioneer) and two 12" subs (Eye Candy) in the trunk, which I would assume has a slight effect on mpg since it takes more power. I don't drive aggressively and I try to shift as efficiently as possible, and yet I'm still stuck around the 30mpg mark. How can I increase my mpg? My tired pressure is good, I recently changed my oil, and everything else is in perfect working order. Barely ever use the AC/heater as well.
