IMO the one big selling point the Yaris has over the competition is its great reliability. The pedal-issues have not had such an impact on sales or image over here. The current model is at the top of its class in Europe and I'd be surprised if the new one would be any different in that aspect. Chevy still has a lot of proving to do in that department, but Hyundai/Kia have improved their reliability massively. Resale value-wise the Toyota still beats them hands down.

It's going to get interesting in this segment, even though Toyota has built itself an undeniable reputation with the Yaris.
