MI SSK + bushings feels stiff?

I just put on my new MI short shift kit w/bracket and cable bushings this morning and I think I did something wrong. It feels very "notchy" when entering or leaving a gear. Is this a byproduct of the bushings?

I realize that shortening the lever arm on the transmission will increase the effort required to shift, but it feels like there's a bump/detent. Is it possible that I didn't align the bracket properly, or got the cables twisted?
