Yaris will not accelerate

Howdy Guys/Gals,

I have a 2007 Yaris 3 dr. approximiately 85000-90000 miles on the odo.

This morning while driving to work I experienced a loss of acceleration. I pressed the accelerator down to the floor several times to no avail. However I did notice that upon SLOWLY pressing the accelerator I could come back up to speed. I ended up making it to work but the problem persists. There is no way I can make it up the freeway ramp with sufficient speed to meet traffic.

Does anybody have any ideas on what could have happened or what kind of problem this may be?

Thanks for your help.
