None of the DIY I checked for Big 3 had a fuse, it worked for me.
My Big 3 it's gauge 0, and on your pictures shows something that looks like gauge 4, not sure if it's better or not. What do you mean with "unprotected"? that red and transparent plastic over the wires is really thick, and protects the wires very good, I don't see anything wrong. D.
