Base Honda Fit only $800 more than base Yaris. Why is that?

Honda has a spotty history with automatic transmissions, and there is no way I would buy any Honda that wasn't manual. In fact, the 9 new Honda/Acura vehicles that I have purchased from 1980 to 2004 have all been 5-speed manual. My next vehicle (planning on a lower-mileage white 2009-2011 Yaris sedan in July/Aug this year) will be my first non-Honda/Acura vehicle, and possibly my first automatic transmission as well.
