Rotors and Pads Replaced
Been meaning to do this for a while. I did it mainly for cosmetic reasons. Rotors had the usual rust scale on the vanes. The brakes were working fine, with a tiny bit of shaking while high speed braking (over 140 km/h). I know, I know but the car just wants to go fast. Not my fault, the car's.
I actually reused the OE (I think) pads, which were replaced not that long ago. They were perfectly smooth, with, I'd say, 80 - 90% lining remaining. The aftermarket ones were chamfered on the ends and don't seem to have as much contact surface. The job was uneventful with the exception of the upper driver's side caliper bracket bolt. That was a beeotch. The lower strut bolt makes it hard to use an impact gun. So, a 17mm wrench and BFH was used. Probably took 5 minutes of solid hammering to loosen that up. Needless to say, every bolt got a nice application of anti-seize, as did the hub/wheel contact surfaces. All four caliper pins operated smoothly but still got a cleaning and repack with silicone brake lube.
