You are correct with that definition. However, adamschneider is comparing anti-illegal immigrants with racists (inferring that we don't want them here just because they are Mexican). This is far from the truth- we don't want the illegals here because they are illegal, and there is no "fear of anything illegal" in the definition of xenophobia. I have no problem with anyone that comes here legally, pays taxes and contributes in a non-criminal way to our country.

You, personally, may be entirely sincere in that statement -- but I find it hard to believe that the anti-immigrant sentiment floating around these days would be quite so passionate if the illegals were coming from, say, Belgium. You're kidding yourself if you think racism has nothing to do with it.
