Sorry. When I wrote 5w-20 I was actually in agreement with you. The 0w-20 statement from the TSB was for those that might be confused into thinking that what goes for the XD engine somehow goes for the Yaris engine.

I think generally we think too much about the oil in the car. How would anybody REALLY know which oil is better than another? Are you analyzing the engine parts at a lab?? Seems silly to me.
I truly believe that if you use a name-brand oil with the recommended weight (5-20, 5-30, or whatever) and change your oil & filter frequently (every 3,000 miles or 5,000) your engine will last and last and last. The trick to longevity is keeping the engine oil clean, by frequently flushing it out with new, clean, oil. Beyond that, I have no idea how one would determine which oil works better. |
