Nice job,but not very thought out.
It would have been a lot cheaper to heat a garage,rather than excavating a basement.
if any fumes from the paint,got to the furnace,could have been a dissaster.
Quite a bit cheaper to rebuild a garage,then a home.

Why did he build it in the basement just to have it dug out. I could understand if he left the hole and put in a door or something... but damn. Can we say more money than brains?

Uhhh... he says in the article that he built it in his basement because he wanted someplace warm to build it and his garage was not big enough. Sounds good enough for me. He also says he only primed in his basement, and had a fume-extraction system.

I think its amazing that he built a lambo in his basement - I wish I had half the skills necessary for that kind of project.. whats even more amazing is that he followed his dream for 20 years despite family, friends, and employment commitments.
