He is in one of the toughest economic periods of US history. We're on the brink of a recession. Inflation is almost guaranteed because of continuous Fed liquidity increases since 2001, and huge increases this fall.

Obama has committed the US to implementing the Kyoto treaty. He promises to be 'tougher' than anyone else. At the very same time he is promising to end Outsourcing of manufacturing jobs to areas of the world which are not under Kyoto restrictions. Businesses instead will go bankrupt or find loopholes to permit outsourcing.

Obama has promised a middle class tax cut. He has promised to fully fund an aggressive expansion of AmeriCorps. He will do these things during a recession and inflation?

While initially campaigning as a "peace candidate" Obama has since committed to increasing troop deployments in Afghanistan. He has also promised to aid Israel if it is attacked. Where he will find the money for these things I do not know.

I call Obama Jimmy Carter with a tan. That may sound mean but it's not far from the truth. I expect him to serve for one term, and to end up defeated and disillusioned like Mr. Carter.

Enjoy your celebrations. Me, I voted for Bob Barr and did not have a dog in this hunt. Still, it's gonna be an exciting two years until the 2010 elections.

as usual, well put Gene, continue to keep your chin up

I can see the LP coming out stronger after a botched liberal controlled government. After carter dropped the ball Reagan picked it up proclaimed "government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem" a theory many of us still hold dear. Perhaps the gov't getting bigger, then not delivering on the promise of hope/change quite the way the Obama supporters have hoped for, then getting knocked down a few rungs will get more people to discover this.

How many years passed between "Das Kapital" and the establishment of the USSR? Sometimes an idea arrives before its time.

Even if the LP doesn't cut it, the ideas might work well. Many recent Nobel Prizes in Economics were awarded to Economics who were sympathetic to Libertarian ideas. Especially Hayek.

Liberals aren't into business and generating wealth. They're into controlling shit. As a consequence they're already behind the eight ball for the next two years. They cannot blame Bush while slapping on regulations, Card Check and Global Warming bullshit that kill jobs, on top of a recession and heavy inflation.

I'm glad that someone from Chicago is voting Libertarian. Considering that your town hosts one of the best Economics Schools in the World one would think that Libertarianism is a acceptable to some there.

You're going to have to be more specific here, Malaya. If you're referring to the Aquino overthrow of Marcos please give credit to a US which refused to support their favorite bastard in the Phillipines.

Are you saying that you, personally, participated in the Aquino revolt, and if so, how does this compared to a simple election?

Incidentally, I was peripherally involved with the Contras in the 1980s, still regret it to this day and it's one reason that I despise Reagan and Bush. They and we were used.

Patterns repeat, but they're only patterns. Think about it.

You haven't overthrown a dictator here. You participated in an election. You haven't changed the System either.

If anything McCain's defeat ends the rule of Neo-Cons. The remaining GOPers in the Congress are more Conservative, including my own Rep.

I'm not worried at all, save the possibility of some irritation from someone calling the Police to report me for illegal guns - I don't own any but such abuse happens from time to time.

Then there is Card Check. I don't like to think about that one, it enrages me to the point of violence. I cannot imagine why Unions insist upon this one, it's suicidal for them in the long term. They must know that they're going to lose because Card Check is a dirty trick.

Aside that, I work for a living, don't use drugs and keep to myself.

I pity the people of Color who are expecting so much from Obama. He's not going to deliver it. He can't, and that's my point.

you don't seem to be healing any sort of divides, it looks to me like you are pouring salt in a wound
