muffler vs exhaust
what's better, buying a 60mm/90mm muffler for $200 and spending $100 on custom 60mm piping ot just buying an exhaust for about $350?
Really I'm comparing the tanabe muffler vs the tanabe medallion concept-g exhaust. The piping is 50mm but idk how restrictive it is vs a muffler with regular piping.

If you are going to go to a muffler shop to do a custom piping, don't waste your money on an overpriced axleback. You can get a full catback done for less than a Tanabe axleback.
A 2 in catback is plenty. You can go 2 1/4 inch but it will be a little louder. |

if youre serious about gains get a catback custom made (or resonater-back in this case) magnaflow said that the cat and res were 2" straight thru and the res-back piping is currently 1.75" get a custom 2" mandrel-bent exhaust with a muffler of your choice....likely cheaper than many of the axlebacks available...

the only problem with custom is that they rust alot faster due to bends and welds.. i guess as long as you dont get salt during winter youll be fine..

Slowy getting there

Some shops that you get a custom job done will fix it if it leaks, or pay a little more than mild steel and get it done in stainless

Most exhaust shops use alumnized tubing, so the only thing that will rust are the welds. |

I would just get a custom cat back done as well. You'd spend 150-200 having them do an axleback....just spend the extra 50-60 bucks and get the additional piping. Then get some header wrap, wrap the whole thing and seal it with wrap seal/high temp paing. This whole bit will cost you less and get you more in the power range

well what i'm probally going to do is get those long tube headers and just do straight piping all the way back with a muffler i was just wondering if there was any difference other than price. oh does anyone know of a muffler that is 2.25"(50mm) in and 2.5"(60mm)out?

Or maybe someone just doesnt wanna go thru the time and trouble to make an exhaust, or maybe they dont wanna hack up the stock exhaust for their own purposes, maybe they dont want to have to worry about losing too much low end torque by doin a full catback, many more reasons then what you have mentioned. Axleback is just easier to me.

just cut your exhuast right after the first cat and o2 sensor. Then get a muffler shop to bend you piping all the way to the back with a cherrybomb glass-pack 2" diameter somewhere in the middle and the muffler of your choice at the end.

I didnt do it just because I know that if I ever go to trade in this car i KNOW the bastards would bitch about the exhaust being "tampered" with. I really would only ever buy something that is a full replacement. The convenience to be able to have my entire car factory stock again in a matter of hours is worth a few hundred bucks down the line. IMO

P.S The greddy, HKS and Blitz are NOT cat backs. They are axle backs like the rest of them. As far as I know there are no production catbacks for us yet. Dammit lol

lol... yea I googled the muffler and the size is impossible to find. See I'm going to keep my stock exhaust for when I sell the car. Nothing wrong with paying alot for a name brand but it's just not always thebest berformance. I'm going for straight exhaust... I'll probally just find a muffler and when i get the race header I'll just get biping back from that.
