Maybe you got that recall prob where #1 the EGR pipe falls apart, or, #2 where the front exhaust pipe melts inside and closes off? Can you expand on your original comment? What do you mean by idles loud? Do you mean the exhaust rumble is loud at idle or there is a metal clanking/ticking?

I found when I was using the service replacement toyota filter ( i think was defective) the VVTi would put the cam phasing in a wierd place and have a loud "phartcan" idle.
