^I can understand the situation with utilities. Recently I've been cutting-back on heating, air conditioning, and electricity in my place. Blankets, open windows, and part-time Amish lifestyle FTW!

I'm also cutting-back bigtime on the good times. I rather stick whatever little I have left after bills into savings ..or under the mattress if the bank tries to screw me over...

1. Stopped using the city garbage service. Still pay the $8/month but don't pay their $1.85/garbage bag. Last week took 10 bags and an old recliner in myself...took me 15 minutes of time, maybe $0.50 in gas, and only cost me $7.

2. Bought an '84 Mazda pickup for $100, splurged and bought $600 in wheels/tires, replaced head gasket, and am replacing the cab with a '53 chev cab. Will be a nice street rod that gets 30 mpg. Will sell either it or the Yaris in a couple months and will be car payment free.

3. Investing whatever I can in tools and equipment so I can get away from my stupid boss that's keeping me at 36 hrs/wk while giving the ass kissers overtime!

Although my wife and I do well in life there are things we go without.

No cable. We use the free TV. We rent movies from the dollar machine at the grocery store.

No cell phones. Use land lines. Our last phone bill was $26.

No high speed internet access. Our neighbors have an unsecured net work that I use for free.

Pay all bill online. I use 1 stamp a month.

As grampa said " watch your pennies the dollars take care of themselves"

Unemployment is at 9.4% and rising. It's about 11% in California and rising. A recent article suggest that it might be as high as 16%. In any case, it is bad. Save as much as you can and prepare for the worst.

My way:
1. My girlfriend and I have stopped eating at restaurants <--- saves about $80/week.
2. I've been eating Maruchan Ramen everyday for lunch <--- saves about $35/week.
3. I bought a Yaris! Good bye rundown 17 MPG beater! <--- saves my sanity.

...OH! and the SaveMart in my area is having a cereal sale! Buy 3 get 3 free!
