Um. no. If you would like to apply that theory to car engines, lawnmowers, weed whackers, harleys, children playing in the street, and everything else in the world that makes noise, then ok. I hear all of those in my house, with the windows closed, on a daily basis

Please don't vilify stereos, because you choose to let them bother you more than any of the other sounds you are accosted with on a daily basis. I turn my stereo down in neighborhoods, but I'm not going out of my way to keep everyone in the world from hearing it. In order of frequency, things I get woken up by: 1)harleys 2)kazoo exhausts on cars 3)the marching band at the high school at 6:45 AM 4)lawnmowers at 7 AM 5)loud stereos |

To address your list: Responsible homeowners have a need to cut grass (they can't spend $$ on a stereo system because they have a family to support and mortgage to pay). Most places don't have laws governing exhaust noise for 2 wheeled motor vehicles. And marching band is a publicly supported and funded activity sponsored by the school district. #2, and #5 are subject to fines and other regulatory action as they are a complete nuisance.

As for the NEED to cut your lawn, that is a want, and an extremely selfish one at that. 1 billion people in the world don't have adequate fresh water. The US is in a water shortage. The fact that you choose to be selfish, and then wake me up on a saturday morning to trim your decoration, is no different then someone playing a stereo. My only point is that if you can hear it, but its not hurting you, maybe you need to grow a little thicker skin. If its truly causing you pain, or impeding on your happiness, then I can see your point, but neither of those are true if you can just "hear" it. |

Also, many cities strictly enforce grass height and will in fact issue a fine if grass is too tall. I fail to see how this relates to water usage. I don't water my lawn but it seems to "magically" grow to the point where it needs to be cut. Amazing! I think the point most of us are making is for those people that play their music well above necessary levels to hear it. It's a simple matter of respecting your fellow person.

Because "one" doesn't need a lawn in the first place. "One" chooses to have a lawn which needs tons of fresh water, and requires noise polluting lawn maintenance. Most cities in California, Nevada, and I'm sure other states will give you a check of up to $2000 dollars for changing to low water usage landscaping. Too bad every house of the american dreamer has to have a big green lawn with a white picket fence. But I don't really want to impede on someone's right to mow their lawn. I'm just saying if being able to hear something that someone else is doing is a sign of disrespect and should be restricted, be fair about it and restrict all loud noises. |

Dude... it doesn't matter if something YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER does or doesn't give you anguish.... its about the things that you DON'T HAVE CONTROL OVER. Example... your neighbors barking dog @ 11PM, some random wannabe thug blasting dual 12's and 1000watts with all four windows rolled down. So... Yeah... if you put your head close enough to a W7 to get bruises you prolly won't think its annoying. Oh.. and for the record.... most people who go around broadcasting their music have crappy stereos... even if they can get loud. I hate loud stereos, tho I've won a dozen or so sound competitions, and have worked on half a dozen cars that won sound competitions. I love bass, but hate when I'm forced to listen to other peoples bass... I also hate loud diesel trucks, motorcycles, and fart cannon mufflers on every 16-25 year old male jerk-off's car. I say they all should be regulated. |

My only point was that either everything or nothing should be regulated. We live in a society of loud noises - cars(engines, exhausts, horns, squealing brakes), lawnmowers, trucks, bikes, planes, trains, constructions sites, and a thousand other abusive noises. By the time it gets down to other people's music I hardly notice. I just find it funny that most people are so annoyed by something that affects maybe 10 seconds a week of their life, when so much more time is spent dealing with louder more annoying noise, most of which isn't necessary, just convenient.
