whatever pub that was, it was reporting that the yaris was the least reliable of all the toyota vehicles. everyone had a heart attack about that one, misinterpreting it to say the yaris was unreliable. one of toyota's cars has to be
their least reliable, it should be their cheapest one, right?
anyway, the initial quality survey really has nothing to do with long term reliability. the jd power long term reliability survey attempts, however poorly, to assess problems after three years of ownership.(the vw jetta has shown up as a top 3 in the entry midsize car category for initial quality, then in the three year study has fallen nearer the bottom of the pile).
building a car that has few problems after 90 days of ownership is one thing, and apparantly even vw can do that. building a car that has had minimal problems after 10 years and 150,000 miles is a whole other challenge. toyota has built its history on the latter, and i expect the yaris will be up to those standards, reliability wise.
