Did you try flipping the switch and then trying to remote start? Maybe the installer didn't want to bother with the hood switch, so they just put a toggle inside for disabling remote start for service.
Pop the panel below the steering column (it flips down). That's the most common place to put an alarm, remote start, or keyless entry module. |

I messed with the switch and all it does is enable the remote start when in the up position and in the down position it disables it.
