[QUOTE=R2D2;351354]My instruction sheet says it's made in Sycamore, Illinois.

LOL. I never would have believed as a teenager that one day I'd own a Japanese car outfitted with American electronics![/QUOTE

The maker of the Ecometer sent me a email saying the gage is assembled and programmed in the USA. Which implies that the Ecometer is made of imported parts. At least my motor oil in my 2 Yarises is made out of 100% American recycled motor oil. Motor oil that started out 80% imported oil. Ooo well.

Having 2 Yarises meant that I could not avoid the temptation to buy a Ecometer for each of my Yarises. I went to Summit Racing in Summit Ohio and picked up 2 Ecometers in person. $69.95 plus tax for each Ecometer.

While the Ecometer can be calibrated to match paper calculations of fuel economy, I have not decided if it is worth the trouble to fine tune the Ecometer. Besides it's fun seeing the display show 117 mpg for a second when I let off the gas.

It is a challenge to keep the mpg up when trying to accelerate. Keeping an eye on the road, while keeping a eye on my speed, while following driving directions from my navigation display, while keeping a eye on traffic, while keeping a eye on the Ecometer is a challenge. I guess I could use a few more sets of eyes. LOL.

This was my biggest trouble back when I was hypermiling, too.

Do you folks ever worry you are really cheesing-off the drivers behind you as you accelerate nice and easy in city traffic? I couldn't seem to get the fuel efficient starts I wanted because I knew the drivers behind me were "not exactly" in economy mode.

i feel bad time to time as well, but i try to break even between pissing off the drivers behind me and keeping the rpms low (as well as my psychic guesstimate of the throttle position and whatnot haha).

Good question. My wife always tells me that someone is going to shoot me for holding up traffic!

I do get concerned that I am coasting to a stop sign/light and causing the vehicles behind me to spew more pollution as a result of my actions. I work in transportation and know from experience that vehicles put out more pollution and PM at lower speeds...both starting and stopping...so I have to wonder what the cumulative effects are.
