you will get that kind of reaction from people in the country, and conservative areas a lot more than you will in cities or liberal areas... at least that's my experience. People in Seattle, WA and Portland and Eugene, OR don't even seem to see my car....people in Spokane, WA and Northern Idaho however would comment all the time.

I think if people understood that I got 45mpg I'd get more reactions.

Actually... I've NEVER had a stranger comment on my car (mechanic when fixing the tire..) Coworkers and friends have had some small chat about the mileage, but never ever have had a stranger see it in a parking lot or somewhere and say something. It must be me haha.

i always get people walking around my car trying to figure out what it is (i have the next badges and yaris/toyota badge removed)

every time I walk out of the store somebody is looking at it

It seems most of the "comments" are from people in the states down there. I guess in their excessiveness lifestyle they don't undersatnd why it's environmental or necessary to have a tiny fuel efficient vehicle when they can idle in their V8 sitting in the drive through for McDees.

I live in Vancouver, and I am not by FAR the only Yaris owner.

Yes, I've gotten all positive comments and even had people just walking around it and checking it out. The latest happened while at a drive thru picking up some lunch. I opened the glove box in front of the steering wheel to get some change from the holder when the girl at the window said "Wow, got your secret stash there, I want to drive your car just for that!" It was a little odd I suppose, but as we all know the Yaris has got mojo.

I get mixed reactions. Usually the stuck-up and/or ignorant crowd will scoff and give dirty looks, then drive-off in their SUVs back to the gas station... The sensible crowd will usually joke just a little at first, but then follow it up with some really good questions. The most common ones being about MPG and interior space (I'm 6'1")

I get compliments all the time.. Sometimes not the kind of attention that I want though.

I had an elderly man ask me if my car was a hybrid at Ralph's parking lot.

At work, my coworkers thought it would be funny to put a bra on my rear windshield wiper and watch me drive home with it on.. Hilarity ensued as I drove down the street minding my own business when some dude in a truck whistled at me. Next thing you know, some girls in a white sedan pull up next to me saying that they wanted to suck my cock. Oh boy..

Then just yesterday, I received a compliment from another female, who was taking her time to inspect the front of my vehicle. She says, "Is this your car?" to which I say, "Why yes, it is." And she says, "I like it."

Our cars get all the attention lol.

Just the other day I had an older couple in a Buick honk at me at a light to get my attention and asked how I like the car, how much I paid for it, etc.

"Sure is cute as a button!" the older gentleman said right before the light changed.

I pretty often use the rear seats. They work for adults just fine. I'm 6'3" and probably close to 260 lbs, and I've ridden back there myself. And knew a guy who got killed in a low speed head-on on a slick road on a college campus in winter, when a cinder block he'd put in the back of his hatchback for traction flew forward and hit him in the back of the head. I'm not exaggerating a thing.

exactly.... head on... cinder block... that's basically worst case scenario. The closest thing to a cinder block that most people would carry in their car's would be canned foods (groceries).... and that's what the cargo net is for.

Yep. I've carried lots of stuff in hatchbacks (which are mostly what I've driven over the years), and am stuffing a minivan right now. Just be aware of possible hazards and try to be careful. I'm not dissing your hatchback, either, I think they're cute little cars. And I love my sedan!

If he was being smart he would have either:

a) had the back seats up, with the cinder block behind the rear seats, therefore would not have flown forward...

b) rear seats up or down, had the cinder block properly tied down so that it wouldn't move...


I guess I'm used to what my parents have always done with their truck (now an 03 Taco). They put cinder blocks in the bed, between the tailgate and the wheel wells. They also place pieces of wood that are long enough to go across the bed to prevent the blocks from sliding forward past the wheel wells. They also then place straps across the top of the blocks to prevent them from flying upward.

If he was smart, he would have used a 50lb bag of sand or rock salt. At least that's how we do it here in Michigan 99% of the time. Absolute worst case scenario is the bag breaks in your car instead of breaking your body.

I get lots of compliments on my Yaris, which is strange considering around here the F-150 is king. The one thing I have noticed is that it appeals more towards women than men, and most of latter have stated something along the lines of "that'd be a great car for my daughter/wife"...

I find the hatch very versatile, and in my opinion it is the nicer of the two models. I did have a sedan as a rental before I got my hatch, which solidified my desire to buy one. It was a great car as well but the hatch just suits my lifestyle better. And the fact that I get 37 MPG in an auto with bigger tires and wheels on it is simply amazing! What a great car!

Haha yeah definitely seems like all the Americans are getting the odd and curious attention. Nobody here gives it a second look most of the time, because if they're waiting for a bus then they've seen the same car pass at least 10 times before they see mine.
