What should be done for 30000 miles maintenance
I am going to a 30,000 miles maintenance tommorow,
and I am wondering what should be done I changed my air filter and cabin air filter this morning. Does the coolant need to replaced with new one? or transmission fluid needs to be replaced? can someone provide some information?? |

Really wish I still had the invoice for my 30k checkup I just went in. My mechanic said that on his checklist for the car that there were just a lot of things in the car he needed to inspect to make sure everything was running top notch. The one thing I really remember is that he checked my transmission fluid and said the color was perfect.
I also found this: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10882 Good luck! Don't let the stealership rob you! |

Spark plugs and coolant lasts til 100k. That's what the manual and scheduled maintenance guide say.

Do this yourself and save around $300.

It should be in the service manual that came with the car, but all they'll probably do is change the oil and check the air filter.

Basicall you need to replace your fluids, replace filter, spark plugs, rotate tires if needed, replace cabin air filter, check brakes, brake flush, cooling flush

Do you really need to change the spark plugs?

manual transmission is to be done at 40000mi, sparks to be done near 60k, coolant closer to 70k. |

I seriously have to question if you actually work at a dealership. How on earth can you recommend maintenance 3 times earlier than the manual recommends?? "Here, let me give you this book explaining everything that needs to be done with your car, along with a detailed scheduled maintenance guide, but when you come in for maintenance, I'll contradict everything written inside." |

lol... I'm just reading out of the 30k service, I love how negative some of you are on here and how willing you are to bash instead of help. Also I don't go by the book and do regular maintenance on my car that way it's in tip top shape. It also depends on how you drive. If you freak over replacing fluids you are stupid. I think you should replace your fluids every or every other year, do oil every 3k(or 3months), replace the air filter once a year, gap spark plugs once a year or as often as you would like and replace when needed. Same goes for brakes, check the pads and rotors and only replace when you need too. I replace the brake fluid once a year or every other year depending on how you drive. I'd replace the inside air filter once a year too. I don't see what's wrong with keeping on top of maintenance and replacing things like this keep your car running a lot longer. The only thing I would go to the dealership for is a once a year alignment and also don't forget about rotating your tires every other oil change.
PS. This is the DIY forum, not the go to the stealer-ship forum. Trust me, I know how overpriced the dealership is, but that's why you DIY(you do it yourself) |

All I can say is I still get 30+ mpg without trying and my car runs smooth and I have 73,000 miles. My coolant, brake fluid, and spark plugs all work just fine, and you are going overboard on a lot of things. Meh, I don't remember trini performance talking about changing coolant, spark plugs, or brake fluid every 30k on his way to 350,000+ miles, and as I said my car runs like the day I bought it. To each his own though, I'm not going to get in a long drawn out argument here. I just think its shady to speak as a voice of authority from Toyota and give an inexperienced car person a huge laundry list of unnecessary maintenance. |

The way the car is treated, the enviornment that its in, and the fuel/oil/filters you use, all determine how long your car will last.
Not everyone has to change out every part when the paper says so. The paper might as well tell most educated people, just give us your money NOW(meaning every 3 months cause we said so) lol. |

again, you can stretch the hell out of all your fluids and do it that way. That's what my mom does on her corolla and she hasn't had her trans fluid replaced but she also drives ideally and does not push her car. Also IMO millage doesn't always mean it's been on the road for that long or been used the same way. If I drove 200k miles highway it's different than city. Oil matters the most on millage but the rest is based on regular ware and tare imo.
Again this is just my opinion and i was giving what was recommended by Toyota warranty service, now this is a generalization because as you know every car is different. |
